Joseph B. Dierker 82 of Akron died October 4 2008 at Akron City Hospital after a long illness. He was born February 3 1926 to Catherine and Joseph Dierker. Joseph graduated from St. V-M and attended Providence College RI. He was employed by the East Ohio Gas Co. and retired from there in 1987. Joseph was preceded in death by his brothers George and Howard. He is survived by his wife of 58 years Bernadette; children Elizabeth (Gary) Rhoades of Green Karl of Tallmadge Lisa (Wayne) Smith of Glastonbury CT; grandsons Joseph Robert and Nick Dierker Noah and Adam Smith and brother James (Edna) Dierker. Joseph was a member of St. Sebastian Parish and past president of their senior citizens. He and his wife served as a team couple for Marriage Encounter and also participated in the St. Sebastian RCIA program. It is with this parish that he enjoyed being an Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist. He was an original board member of Westside Neighbors and a Red Cross transportation driver for 18 years after his retirement. Mass of Christian Burial Tuesday October 7 2008 11:00 AM at St. Sebastian Church 476 Mull Ave. Interment in Holy Cross Cemetery. Friends may call at Hummel Funeral Home 500 E.
