Elaine Evans

Elaine Evans 75 a longtime Akron resident died Wednesday January 9 in her home following a brief period of illness. She was born June 11 1937 at Uneka North Carolina the daughter of the late Howard Massingill and Florence Jenkins Bobich. She was widely known in Akron and throughout Summit County as the founder of the city's successful community gardening program ''Let's Grow Akron.'' Surviving family members include: her four children Joy Lynn Rose of Orlando FL Suzanne Trimmer of New Philadelphia Kelly Jo Evans of Akron and Eric Todd Evans of Port Clinton; a brother Danny Bobich of Akron; 10 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Along with her parents Elaine was preceded in death by her longtime companion Jack and grandson Joey. A memorial service celebrating Elaine's life will be held Thursday January 17 at 2:00 p.m. in Hummel Funeral Home 500 E. Exchange St. Akron. Friends may call in the funeral home on Thursday from 12:00 p.m. until time of service at 2. Memorial gifts may be made in Elaine's name to Let's Grow Akron 467 Harvey Ave. Akron 44314. Funds will be used to revive her beloved Children's Garden in South Akron.
