March 1, 1936 ~ July 16, 2020

Born in: Akron, OH
Resided in: Copley, OH

On July 16, 2020, Nancy Rae Lewis, age 84, followed her beloved husband “Peachy” of 67 years to be with her Lord Jesus Christ for eternity. She joins her mother Neva, brother John Smith, and husband Carroll Lewis who preceded her by only 13 days.

She was born in Akron in 1936. Her father Ralph Smith died in a railroad tragedy when she was 6yrs old. In spite of a difficult childhood, she grew up, married her high school sweetheart, and both went on to surrender their lives to their Savior. She served in many ways, including a jail ministry and a Christian coffee house. She loved to bake and cook for others “feeding half the neighborhood.” In later years, the children in the neighborhood called her Miss Nancy. They would visit her, and she always shared a special treat with a dose of Jesus.

Nancy was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and aunt. She is survived by her brother Robert (Helen); children Michael (Bethany), John (Darla), Dawn (John), and “like a son” Pat Gramley (Vickie), “adopted daughter” Barb Kane; grandchildren Erin, Josh, Emily, Dustin, Dan, April, Sam, Todd, Tyler, Nate, Zach, Kristin, and James; great grandchildren Jack, Knox, Marlee Rae, Lincoln, Max, and Beckham; nieces and nephews Cheryl, Viki, Scott, Steve, Erica, Chris, Louise, Dan, Kelly, Laura, Josh, Susie, David, Becky, Mark, Marty, Kathy, and Pete.

Funeral service will be 5:00pm Tuesday, July, 21, at Grace Church, Norton Campus, (3970 S. Cleveland Massillon Rd. Barberton, Ohio 44203), where friends may call one hour prior to service. Private interment in Copley Cemetery.

  1. Nancy, you were one of a kind and will be greatly missed. I can only imagine the good things God has in store for you. Thank you for being a living example of redemption and leaving us steps to follow.

  2. Nancy you were an inspiration. Always greeted everyone with a smile and love. We will miss you but are happy you are now with the Lord and Peach. Great are your rewards.

  3. Such a sweet compassionate lady whose qualities, I have seen, live on through her daughter, Dawn. Life holds such sweet sorrow that our hearts can hardly contain, except for God’s sustenance. “Does Jesus care when I’ve said ‘goodbye’ to the dearest on earth to me? And my sad heart aches till it nearly breaks- is it aught to Him? Does He see? Oh, yes! He cares, I know He cares, His heart is touched with my grief; when the days are weary, and the long night dreary, I know my Savior cares!”

  4. Dawn and family, We have been praying for you all at this difficult time. We cannot imagine how hard it is to have lost both of your parents so closely. Know that we love you and look forward to seeing you whenever you are able to make it back. Our hearts and prayers are with you always. Mom and I pray every night for you all!📿🙏🙏🙏

  5. I am just shocked to hear this news so soon after the loss of your father. Your Mom was a sweetie. My deepest sympathy.

  6. Nancy had a heart for God, for family, for friends and others. She was always desiring to serve, to give, and to pass on God’s message of love and salvation to others. I appreciate her work in prisons and at the Haven of Rest ministries. I will greatly miss the friendship that we’ve enjoyed over 50 years with Peach and Nancy. Heaven is richer, but we grieve the loss of her here.

  7. We just read about Nancy’s passing in our local newspaper and were so saddened to hear. Nancy and Peach were the best next door neighbors to us for over 25 years and I enjoyed talking with them about their early married life in Germany. My son would forget his house key and always go next door to get the duplicate key we had given the Lewises and enjoy her wonderful cookies. They were both so devoted to our Lord and know that they are definitely both in heaven with their Savior. God bless you Nancy … I am really going to miss you …
