Gregory Burns

Gregory Burns, age 70, of Peninsula, Ohio, passed away on Friday, October 30, 2020 at Western Reserve Hospital, Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. The son of Richard “Dick” and Betty (Strang) Burns he was born December 31, 1950 in Greenville, North Carolina. Mr. Burns graduated from Ashland High School in 1969. He served in the US Army in Korea in the early ‘70s, after which he worked for Ohio Department of Transportation, Ashland County Garage. Mr. Burns was a resident of Wayside Farm Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Peninsula, Ohio prior to his recent hospitalization and death from COVID-19. He is survived by his brothers: Bradley “Rocky” Burns of North Port, Florida and Mike Burns of Jeromesville, Ohio.; sisters: Kathy Marszal of Elyria, Ohio, and Jennifer and Jody Burns, both of Ashland, Ohio; and, nieces and nephews: Megan, Mariah, Joey, Alexandria, and Garrett. Mr. Burns was preceded in death by his parents. Interment will be at Western Reserve National Veterans Cemetery with full military honors on a date to be determined. Hummel Funeral Homes of Akron is handling arrangements.   1. The photo with Greg’s obituary is my favorite of him. I took it during one of our outings. It captures his ability to
    smile in the face of incredible adversity— a life long battle with schizophrenia. I was his first cousin and guardian. My time with him made me a better person as I was constantly reminded of the simple things in life that are important, particularly time with our family members. Thanks to Wayside Nursing Home for taking Greg into their hearts.
