Obituary of George Bachmann, Jr.

George W. Bachmann Jr. went home to be with the Lord on May 15th at the age of 91. He lived life to the fullest until suffering a brief illness and he was in hospice care.

     He was born in Akron on July 1, 1925.  He attended St. Sebastian Grade School and St. Vincent's High School graduating in 1943.  He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II as a waist gunner in a B-17 squadron and completed 35 missions over Europe. For his service he was awarded the Medal of the French Legion of Honor in 2015.   He returned to Akron to work in the family business for several years and raise his family.  He then worked for the US Post Office retiring in 1987. His love of singing led him to become a member of the Derbytown Chorus barbershop group for many years. He enjoyed travelling and also staying close to his friends and classmates.

    Preceded in death by his parents, George W. Sr. and Theresa Bachmann, his first wife, Maxine, son, Gregory, brother, Jim and sisters Mary Jane and Helen Markel, he is survived by his loving wife, Patricia and his children, George (Jan), Patty Moscorelli (Joe), Dianne Capitena (Mike), Mary Beth Frisbie (Dave), Maureen Hartnett (Ed), Paul (Jeanne), daughter-in-law, Jeanette Shane, and step-daughter, Diane Beresh.  He also leaves 16 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren and a step-grandson and a step-great grandson. He will also be missed by many nieces and nephews.

    A devoted father, George enjoyed camping and fishing with his family and passed on to them an appreciation for these simple pleasures. He always had a smile on his face and he shared with everyone his great sense of humor.  He will be missed by all who knew him and will be remembered as a kind, loving and faith-filled man who loved life.

  Calling hours will be on Friday, May 19, 2017, at Hummel Funeral Home, 3475 Copley Rd., Copley, OH, from 4-7pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Sebastian Catholic Church, 476 Mull Ave., Akron,  on Saturday, May 20, 2017, at 11:00am.  George will be laid to rest at a later date at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.
